The specific date is unknown. We do know that Jonah was prophesying during the reign of Jeroboam II. So he likely prophesied between 785-775.
Purpose
While it is uncertain who the intended audience is, it is clear that the writer wanted to educate and not entertain.
Structure
This is a unique book unlike the other Prophets. Jonah is a narrative story about Jonah and God rather than a collection of oracles and prophecies
